Maker Spotlight: Rita et Katherine

We've said it before, and we'll say it again, we adore Stephanie Landry and her Rita et Katherine earrings!

How cool is it to wear something another person has put so much passion into?

Like so many, the HOME team included, when the COVID-19 pandemic started, Steph had a little bit more time on her hands and was looking for a way to disconnect from her "real" work.

"After a lot of research and getting the earring-making basics, I instantly realized that it was something I wanted to pursue," Steph told us recently.

Enter her new business - Rita et Katherine.

Steph Landry is the creative genius behind the intricate and beautiful Rita et Katherine Earrings.

"The name comes from my grandmother and great-grandmother. Rita, my mémé, was a hard-working, creative and flower-loving lady. Katherine, my great-grandmother, was also an incredible woman who instilled many of the great qualities found in all the women in my family. Rita and Katherine are also both my middle names, of which I've always been very proud."

After a little while, she was in full swing, creating earrings with delicate and intricate designs. The patterns often come from her love of plants, with shapes and colours playing other factors. So, when it came time for us to begin planning our spring box, we knew a set of earrings were a must to welcome the season in style!

Steph with her new Rita et Katherine: Caley Joy Collection earrings.

"Designing the earrings for the Caley Joy Spring Box was a very fun process! After seeing some of my previous work, Caley and I went through different styles and colour schemes and quickly created a simple floral design. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the process of making these earrings."

Over this past year, Steph says she's learned more about herself.

"My main takeaway is that it's OK to take risks. Putting myself out there has always been very scary for me. Still, after some successful ideas, as well as not-so-successful ideas, I've come to the conclusion that none of it matters unless it makes you happy. So, if you want to do it, do it. Growth comes from both success and failure. Don't be afraid to take that first step towards what makes you happy, whatever that might be."

How right is she?!

We are so happy to have her as part of our spring box, and we hope you'll love her creations as much as we do!
